Oleg I. Kaganov

Oleg I. Kaganov was born on 12.09.1974. Graduated from Samara State Medical University in 1998. He had clinical internship and residency at the Department of Surgical Diseases No. 2 of Samara State Medical University.

In 2001, he started to work as an oncologist in Samara Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary. In 2004, he completed his postgraduate program and defended thesis entitled “Clinical and morphological rationale for surgical treatment of patients with toxic goiter (experimental clinical study)” (specialty “surgery and pathological anatomy”). Since 2006, he had been working as a clinician and as an assistant at the Department of Oncology of Samara State Medical University. In 2013, he defended his doctoral thesis in oncology entitled “Combination treatment of liver and lung metastases from colorectal cancer using radiofrequency thermal ablation” at P.A. Herzen Moscow Oncology Research Institute.

On 01.09.2014, he became a Professor in the Department of Oncology of Samara State Medical University, Ministry of Health of Russia. Between 2014 and 2019, Dr. Kaganov worked as the head of the Department of Research and Training of Scientific and Pedagogical Staff in Samara State Medical University. On 15.06.2018, he was awarded the title of associate professor in oncology by the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission. Since 2019, he has been working as a deputy chief doctor for research at Samara Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary. On 01.07.2021, he became the head of the Department of Oncology at Samara State Medical University, Ministry of Health of Russia.

Two candidate theses were successfully defended under his supervision. His clinical activity involves surgical treatment for cancers of the stomach, intestine, liver, pancreas, retroperitoneal space, and kidneys.

Dr. Kaganov completed training and received certificates in 3 specialties, including oncology, surgery, healthcare organization and public health.

He has been certified for the highest qualification category in oncology and surgery.

Since 2016, he has been a chairman of the regional branch of Russian Society of Colorectal Surgeons; in 2016–2018 he was the elected president of the Russian Society of Colorectal Surgeons. In 2017, Dr. Kaganov received a grant from the Government of Samara region for the study “Molecular genetic diagnosis of colon cancer”.

Dr. Kaganov has co-authored more than 200 research articles, 18 patents, 11 textbooks and 1 monograph; his Hirsch index is 9.
